:star: Starija Our first group contest is over as of now! Thank you all for participating, and we'll look forward to seeing more from you guys in the future! We will be hosting more of these with different (better /coughcough/) genres.

Good luck, contestants as well as judges!

:star: Founder here, again. I was out of power for a week due to Hurricane Sandy (It was not fun, and extremely cold and now the fire alarms are spazzing), so I've changed the due date because everything in life has been pushed back. Submit entries by the 16th of November!! Thanks!! :star:

Note: WE'RE HOLDING A JOINT CONTEST WITH THE CO-FOUNDER Starija! LOTS OF POINTS FOR PRIZES! (Entries from that contest will be submitted to Fiction-Writers's SECRET SANTA contest folder!)
[CLOSED]update: CONTEST IS OFFICIALLY OVER. I WILL NO LONGER ACCEPT ANY MORE ENTRIES. PLEASE GO CHECK OUT MY LATEST JOURNAL FOR THE UPDATE.
edit: oi oi, did ya'll know that you can enter BOTH a poem AND a story???

:star: THIS CONTEST IS BEING SPONSORED BY iskarlata, WHO HAS PROVIDED THE POINTS AS TOP PRIZES :star:
I am dedicating this contest to promoting two of my writing groups! Please join, as they are both in need of more writers. I promise I'll read your stuff.
:bulletred: Deadline: Christmas Day, December 25th, 11:59 PM PST
:star: PRIZES :star:
(Feel free to donate anything you want! If you'd like me to, I'll feature you on my page and the group's for a year or however long you want.)

SCIENCE FICTION WRITING CONTEST - 440 :points: total for prizes!

Pick up your pen, pencils, markers, quills, and/or keyboards ladies and gentlemen, it's contest time. I hope. I mean, really, it'll be loads of fun guys. Unlike the screaming that is emitting from the show my family is watching right now. That's not fun.

So, here's how this contest is going to work out. I'm going to pick from a hat one of our folders, and, that'll happen as soon as I find paper that doesn't have a part of my book on it... *wanders off for a while* FOUND ONE!! *pops out of stack of papers*
:iconwritingplz: :iconpaperplz:

So, just as a refresher, our folders are as follows:

Science Fiction
Historical Fiction
Fantasy
General/Everyday
Futuristic
Spiritual/Demonic
Superpowers
Romance
Fan Fiction
Mixed
Horror
Short Stories
Mixed
Poetry

The category Short Stories will be used as the basis. Every entry will be a short story.

Main category is: Science Fiction

Rules:
:bulletred: Everything goes!!! I don't care if it's got mature on mature on mature. If you want to write that, go right ahead! But if someone is insulted, I'm not getting you out of that. I will not be that kind admin. And yes, you may submit old works!

:bulletred: Try to keep it a good length. Not too short, but please don't write a twelve page essay. I'd die if I had to read that. There's no word limit.

:bulletred: HAVE FUN. I think this is the most important rule. If you're not going to have fun, then don't do it. I can always find some other use for you.

:bulletred: You have to be a member (or a member of an affiliate) to join this contest, so please join us, writers!

:bulletred: Please submit entries to the SCIFI CONTEST folder, NOT THE SCIENCE FICTION OR ANY OTHER FOLDER! If it is not in the specified folder, your entry will not count!

:bulletred: Deadline is 11:59pm EST, November 16th.
Other notes:
I need judges. So if you don't want to write, but you'd love to critique, come join the judging club. Just send me a note or comment here. I'll only take four other judges. Judge places given on first come first served basis. Judges, I'll be making a chat room for us to use to discuss entries as the deadline gets closer.

Judge 2: this lovely person 1negative1
Judge 3: Nyatto, you're awesome!
Judge 4: strawburdeath, thank you soo much. :meow:

And yes, this was hilarious in my mind. You can stop thinking I'm insane now. Because I am. Isn't that reassuring.

Guaranteed, except I decided it would be this: Featured On My Page for 3 months for 3rd, 6 months for 2nd, and a whole year for first place, llamas for all participants if I haven't given one already, and journal feature for winners and runner ups. Is that fine?

I have to become a member first, but I'm willing to participate.

If you seem to be lacking a few entries I will enter as a contestant, but do not need any requests done if I win any place.

BUT, if you really need judges even more, then I will participate as a judge. If I enter as a judge, I can donate 1,500 points to first place, and serve as an editor/brainstorm partner for any short story up to three months or help you with a full-length novel.

Well, I've opened the contest up to members of affiliates too. It'd still be nice if people joined the group though!!

Judges are welcomed, and those are some kick ass prizes, I must say. But if you want to join, Nothing's stopping you. :3 Other than deadlines that is. :3

Short stories are my weakness. In the writing world I'm a marathon writer, not a sprinter (i.e. multi-chapter novelist). But right now my brain is in scramble mode. I'm being inspired by everything I see so it's hard to focus on something. Kind of the opposite problem to writer's block.

Oh yeah just fyi, "general/every day" stories are usually called 'Slice of Life'.

Well, do what you want. If you feel like writing a short story for the contest, go a head. If not, just ask and you can be a judge!

Thanks. ^^' My genre naming skills are lacking in some areas.

I shall ... submit my sci-fi novel! At least what I have of it. 85 pages and 28,000 words.

Just kidding. But can I submit an excerpt out of it?

Go ahead. I would not want to read 85 pages of Sci-fi. Not that Sci-fi isn't good or anything, I'm just all ready crazy enough when I'm not hyped up on sugar and reading ten million things at once and have a storm coming in. :3

um, i don't quite understand that last part you mentioned. you'll donate your services as an editor/brainstormer for the winner of first place or something like that?
actually, i haven't told anyone this yet (i will really soon to an affiliate's founder through notes). i'm thinking about an idea for this contest that i might try "collaborating" or making a big contest project thing where :iconinspiretheuninspired:, :iconkakikotoba: and :iconfiction-writers: will put out short story (or poetry later on) contests using all the different genres or varieties that are found in this group's folders. for example, the one now is Science Fiction. maybe next month or something, we'll throw out a contest on Romance or whatever genre that's chosen, and members of all 3 affiliates can enter that contest. how does this sound like to you?
it does sound nice if you participate, but there's very few willing or who have entered this contest because of the genre (and before, lack of active members.) ima try to find out how to get more participants here soon, maybe by getting it known within the 3 affiliates/groups. as for judges here, i don't even know yet due to the lack of entries.

Sometimes it's hard for story people to come up with ideas. And it always helps to have another story person to talk to in order to brain storm. You put two creative heads together and discuss different ideas and expand on them. Its one of the best techniques to fight writer's block.

That at least I will do for first place winner.

I can fully edit and correctly format 3,000 words in about 11 minutes (minus extra comments and suggestions). I'm apparently really good as an editor, but I wouldn't dream of doing it as a career. Not enjoyable enough and too much hate mail :tantrum:. I only edit stories and help true authors; those who always seek to improve.

I enjoy writing much more. :)

Most of my critiques are on short stories I've taken precious time to look over and analyze.
